I.C. cuts needed more debate, alternatives

The Iowa City Community School District is thinking of cutting its budget drastically and the way the cuts are being done will have a negative effect on many students. I do not understand the logic behind how this cut is being met. This kind of issue should have been discussed in greater length by the board members, the parents and other stakeholders in the school district.
I do not think that other available options were explored to help alleviate the deficit the school district is experiencing. Two years ago a new school was built that cost millions of dollars. Was this a necessary expenditure for the school district? In my opinion, 'no.”
We have to think about this issue more deeply because this will affect the lives of staff and students. The board members should not rush to make decisions that have a negative impact on the learning environment. As a parent and a member of this community, I would like them to know that I am watching them and marking all that they are doing.
