Humans responsible for gun violence

To the editor:
I agree with Lan Nowotny that 'gun violence” is really 'human violence” ('People, not guns, capable of violence,” July 21); or more exactly, 'human violence” causes 'gun violence.”
So, it should follow that we try to keep humans who shouldn't have guns from buying them, like requiring background checks on would-be buyers of guns.
Would Nowotny agree with that? Or is he willing to keep paying the price of senseless mass slaughters because any restriction on gun ownership means we risk becoming 'victims of a socialistic government”?
