Humane Society should guarantee adoptions

I am a volunteer with a local rescue group who has had the pleasure of working with the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter, which often calls us as a resource, and also with the Cedar Valley Humane Society on a limited basis over the years.
It sounds like the main point of concern with CVHS is to ensure the euthanizing of adoptable animals is the last resort. That is where we all need to step forward and have a voice. I believe the public has the right to know the numbers and reasons that animals are being put to sleep, as well as other functions of the shelter.
It is my hope that CVHS is contacting rescue groups and other resources before making that last choice. No animal advocate wants to put down an adoptable animal and until the Humane Society and shelters can become adoption-guarantee facilities, this will continue.
I believe CVHS has a great opportunity before it to become an adoption-guarantee shelter by utilizing resources and doing things differently.
It takes all of us working together to rescue animals. Be a volunteer, a foster home, a fundraising assistant, a vacation home, etc. The list is endless. Become active and have a voice for all animals.
