Hotel impedes potential of convention center
The Gazette Opinion Staff
May. 28, 2011 11:11 am
It's not too late to do the Cedar Rapids convention center the right way. The city should actively pursue acquisition of the Roosevelt Hotel, provide fair assistance for relocation for the present occupants, replan the facility, demolish the hotel and provide the city with a premier convention center that would be the envy of the Midwest.
Although an icon in the downtown district, the Roosevelt Hotel will not add any “sparkle” to the convention center if left alone.
Think about it, but hurry. It's not too late.
