To the editor:
Three cheers for Leann M. Thrapp's Nov. 29 guest column 'Hospice care about quality of life - and more”.
I, too, thought hospice meant only death and dying. I was in for a surprise when I experienced the true meaning of the word hospice. I speak from actual experience about the wonderful and loving care given to my husband.
I, too, was in disbelief when I was told the news. With their loving and wonderful care, I had him six months longer than estimated. He had a great team - a chaplain, nurse, doctor, dietitian, social worker, a wonderful aide, massage therapy and musician. With all that love and support along and my family, I made it through a very difficult and sad time for me. They all became like family members and were so supportive. I cannot say enough for all Mercy Hospice did for both of us. Thank you!
If ever you are faced with this kind of situation, do not be afraid. Accept their support. I never would have been able to come through this very sad time without them along with my family.
