Horns, like cameras, are for our safety
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Regarding Cedar Rapids' downtown train horns: This is a safety issue needed to alert motorists. Why do city leaders want to silence them, when they also are trying to protect us from ourselves by installing cameras on Interstate 380 and elsewhere. This is a contradiction and shows that the cameras are there as revenue producers. Also, if they wanted to quiet the downtown area, why not ticket the loud motorcycles?
One other thing: The May 3 local-option sales tax vote lost, not because the elite didn't spend enough money; it was because taxpayers have had enough taxes and fees rammed down their throat. Show the electorate that you are responsible with what you have, then try for more.
