Honor Flight was special, rewarding trip

I just returned from a rewarding trip to Washington D.C. on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, sponsored by Rockwell Collins. My guardian was my granddaughter, a Rockwell employee. It was a most memorable day for us: perfect weather, excellent guardians and guides, and special escorts for our full day of tours.
Touring all the memorials called for endurance. Sharing memories with the veterans and being recognized for all the sacrifices made by the veterans and their families was very rewarding.
Mail call was a special event on our return flight - receiving special notes of appreciation for our service was a surprising gesture.
Thanks to all who showed their support for our group on our late return to The Eastern Iowa Airport where we received an overwhelming welcome home.
I want to thank the sponsors of these Honor Flights and hope to encourage other veterans to take advantage of this opportunity to visit our country's memorials while they are able. This experience makes one proud to be an American citizen.
