To the editor:
Duty, honor, country and similar expressions of loyalty were the ideals embraced by the contingent of veterans who visited Washington, D.C. in October. The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight and sponsors, once again, provided a nostalgic and moving daylong visit to the memorials, which are the country's tribute to the men and women who died in our past conflicts.
The veterans had a natural kinship to these sites as they could picture themselves on these battlefields. Washington, D.C. was a beautiful city on the warm fall day and was a remainder of our responsibility to keep alive the memories of our past heroes.
Many thanks to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight and sponsors for the planning and preparation which gave way to a memorable day for each veteran.
