Honor Flight memorable from start to finish

On April 22, I was on the Honor Flight. It was above and beyond what I had imagined. From the moment we left Cedar Rapids, it was apparent how much time and energy the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight board put into making this a day to remember.
At the Iwo Jima memorial, a class of 6- and 7-year-old children on a field trip came to shake our hands and thank us for serving. What a great extra to an already great day.
I never could have imagined the welcome home we would receive at the airport that night. A band playing, flags waving and hundreds of people shaking your hand and thanking you for your service.
Truly a day I will remember for a long time. Thank you, Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.
