Hold tight to scriptures amid political storm
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 22, 2010 12:41 am
On March 13, a dear friend and church family member passed away. Colleen Hernden enjoyed sharing her faith in God and nothing shall hinder my joy ever again.
Since saying, “I will not write another letter,” countless columns and lengthy letters have ridiculed anyone writing scriptural truths about today's politically polarizing topics.
On March 12, a letter, “Bible, Iowa have welcoming messages” was critical of another writer's scriptural message and the obvious comeback of “Judge not ...” was used to silence critics. He conveniently ignored the rest of the scripture and was certainly unaware Jesus said, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” (John 7:24). God's word judges righteously: “And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). It's this word that judges all and all using the scriptures in truth of Spirit do so righteously.
On March 14, a column, “Forefathers would be amazed at today's U.S.” basically stated our Founders' writings are useless in today's enlightened mindsets. The forefathers would be amazed but also ashamed how politics has destroyed their ideal government. I'm certain this minister certainly believes in the Bible, but like all people our bias taints judgment.
I believe President Obama like all our leaders was placed in authority over us by God. However, it was not to prosper America, but to bring our era of liberty and freedom to an end.
There is a storm coming; hold tightly to this anchor of hope, Jesus saves.
