Hinson is hardly working hard for farmers

Iowans should be alarmed at Ashley Hinson’s re-election prospects and her support of Donald Trump’s re-election as well. Hinson often repeats Trump’s false demonization of people who are fleeing corruption and violence in hopes of starting a new life for their families here in America. They are not criminals and drug peddlers. They simply want to work, get a paycheck, and raise their families safely.
Hinson recently put out a statement that she is working hard for farmers. Hardly. Consider that 73% of America’s agriculture workers were not born here, according to the USDA. This includes those who milk our cows, feed our hogs, harvest our vegetables, and do backbreaking work in our meat processing plants. Some are here legally, some not. Most would prefer to be here and work legally if the means to expedite their asylum applications existed.
Fact. The bipartisan immigration reform bill introduced in the Senate earlier this year would have helped immensely. But thanks to Trump and Hinson, the bill was killed because they needed the problem to remain broken for the 2024 election.
Concerned about the high cost of groceries and other items? Watch what happens if suddenly Trump and Hinson get their way and start deporting millions of workers?
We’d be wise to remember, America is a nation of immigrants. And America needs workers now more than ever.
I support Sarah Corkery for Congress.
