To the editor:
Demi Lovato came to support Hillary Clinton at the University of Iowa Memorial Union on Jan. 21. A crowd lined up in anticipation several hours earlier than the planned event. The opportunity to meet two confident, successful women was worth the wait.
Many in the media emphasized the brevity of Clinton's speech, but her object was to make personal contact with the audience by coming off the stage and shaking hands, hugging people, posing for selfies and having conversations. For Clinton, it is more important to have a personal encounter by meeting people and getting to know the issues that are important to them.
Lovato appeared with her signature big smile and a glamorous elegance. She sang several of her hit songs including 'Confident.” Clinton and Lovato spoke in support of the message of self-confidence; to reinforce self-confidence in the people. Lovato said, 'I'm voting for Hillary because of the fact that she completely embodies the concept of women empowerment.”
People may criticize Clinton for her celebrity connections, but Lovato and the celebrities that campaign for her all support social change and empowerment. The length of the speech is not as important as the power of the speech and her personal connection with the people.
