Highway litter is an embarassment

To the editor:
I've been considering writing this letter for quite some time. Originally, it was going to be about the condition of Highway 30, specifically 30 East. Then the snow melted and I was disgusted with the amount of trash in Iowa.
I made a trip to Illinois for family business and noticed how much cleaner their roadways are. I travel 30 East from Edgewood Road to the C Street exit several times a week and parts of it are like a washboard. I get angry every time I drive it because I think 'there goes my wheel balance and the alignment of my car.”
I know our streets are in bad repair all over town and I realize our funds are limited, but I hope this particular area will be addressed soon. The section between the Kirkwood and C Street exits are the absolute worst. I also drive Interstates 380 and 80 and the amount of litter is an embarrassment to our state. I'd like to invite my brother for a visit, but I would literally be ashamed. I am hoping a group of my neighborhood association would be willing to clean a section of Highway 30 and I hope other groups will do the same.
