Hiawatha has it right: Cities work together
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Am I alone in seeing the irony of the Cedar Rapids City Council's decision to hold its meetings at Hiawatha City Hall? If Hiawatha was bidding to obtain the business of letting the Cedar Rapids council meet there, it would not qualify under Cedar Rapids' new “buy local” initiative.
Kudos to Hiawatha for graciously allowing the Cedar Rapids City Council to meet in its city hall when not in use. Hiawatha recognizes what Mayor Ron Corbett does not - that the cities of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion are in this together.
That is why, during the disaster, Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Marion residents and governments all worked together. That is the way it should be. Corbett and the Cedar Rapids City Council have taken a one-for-all and all-for-us approach. Cedar Rapids must lose what might be remaining of its flood victim mentality and realize that it will be a flood survivor with the help of the entire metro community.
