Help support quality infill for Cedar Rapids

The proposed demolition of First Christian Church is a tragic missed opportunity for quality infill in Cedar Rapids - an opportunity unique to our city in exchange for another parking lot.
Quality infill that includes mixed-use development creates a vibrant community that takes advantage of its historic integrity and existing infrastructure, and enhances air quality and promotes economic vitality by creating desirable places for residents to live, work and play.
Quality infill promotes healthy lifestyles based on walking rather than depending on automobiles. Quality infill is about smarter building and smarter planning to minimize traffic congestion and less stress on the environment. Infill done right makes sense economically and for the environment. Infill done wrong will encourage an exodus out of the city.
A group of citizens is seeking donations to save this historic structure. Donations will be tax deductible. The Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street has offered to serve as the fiscal agent. About $530,000 is needed to purchase the building. Please help save this building. If enough money is not raised, donors can have their checks returned or contribute to the seed money for a Friends of Preservation Foundation. Mail checks to: CV/NB Main Street Office, 101 16th Avenue, Suite A, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
