Thomas Heckroth, a candidate in the 1st Congressional District, has spent his career helping workers.
As an adviser to former U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, a lifelong friend of organized labor and the American worker, Thomas focused on education, agriculture and labor policy - issues critically important to the citizens of Iowa. Thomas continued to fight for workers when he joined the Obama administration's Department of Labor, holding corporations and trading partners accountable to protect workers' rights and level the playing field for Iowan and American workers.
Following government service, his commitment to justice continued. He worked in the private sector for a clothing manufacturer. There he enforced fair labor and environmental standards at home and around the world, to show that profit doesn't have to come at the expense of people and the environment.
Thomas has the support of many individual union members and their families throughout the district because they have gotten to know him and recognize that he has the experience that our next congressman needs to represent working families. They know Thomas believes 'representative” is not a title, but a job description - one that will require him to listen to and work hard for all Iowans. He will lead the effort to improve the lives of Iowans.
