Hearing refusal tarnished Grassley

Although the Dec. 31 guest column about Sen. Chuck Grassley's legacy as chairman of the Judiciary Committee ('Grassley leaves a legacy worth emulating”) pointed out several positive accomplishments, it failed to identify the elephant in the room.
Grassley willfully violated the Constitution when he denied Merrick Garland a hearing after being nominated to the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama.
This action was and remains deeply disappointing, and no spin on positive accomplishments can remove this deliberate violation of the document he vowed to uphold.
