Health care act helps infants with defect

Thank you for the heartwarming story about the treatment of Haitian infant Bedica Ermilus by Drs. Chris Buresh and Ginny Ryan (“Beating the odds,” April 10).
The article mentioned that about 1 in 3,000 babies is born with the same digestive tract birth defect. That adds up to more than 1,300 infants in the USA alone. Corrective surgery, since the passage of the Affordable Care Act that requires coverage for pre-existing conditions (for children), is now paid for.
Those people determined to repeal “ObamaCare” might give this some thought.
