Hawkeyes kneeling offends an Army veteran

Yes, Mike Hlas, your comment in your article Nov. 1 did bug me. Our national anthem and our country's flag are not the right platforms to express opposition. There are other ways to disagree. These athletes are given a tremendous opportunity to get an education and a better life after college. This is given to them by their country, this state and this university. Comments like yours are disrespectful to the millions of men and women who have served and died protecting this country, so all Americans could have the freedom to express themselves and pursue their goals in life.
Comments like this do nothing to heal the wounds of our country. Please, in the future, think a bit about how your choice of words might affect the veterans of this great country.
