Hawkeyes, don’t be fair-weather fans

To the editor:
We are Hawkeyes. We are born, bred and cornfed and we bleed black and gold ... right? I was raised on the Hawkeyes by my father and always have been, always will be. I stand with the Hawks and I stand with Kirk and it doesn't matter if we win or lose, I still shine with pride at being a Hawkeye.
Yes, it's disappointing to see the season end like it did at the Rose Bowl but they can't take the season away from those boys or from that team. Seeing fans abandon the team and bemoan Ferentz, makes me honestly sad.
I don't understand the notion of being a fan only if we are winning or doing well and while I don't get to tell another how to be a fan, I can say that only supporting our boys when they're winning is beyond wrong.
If you are a Hawkeye, stand with them always and tell yourself they'll bring it around again. They will. They're the Hawkeyes and no matter what they always find a way to show us why we stay ... remember that in heaven there is no beer.
Remember why you were a fan in the first place. Don't be fairweather and abandon them when they're down.
