Have fierce competitors yet gracious fans

We would like to thank you for your great coverage of the University of Iowa athletics, especially for our wonderful football program. In the wake of the tragic things that have happened at Penn State, we need to thank the powers that be for having hired and retrained coaches such as Hayden Fry, Kirk Ferentz and their respective staffs.
As season ticket holders approaching 40 years, we have so many wonderful memories both in Kinnick Stadium and at other stadiums in the Big Ten, and of course, during some terrific bowl games through the years.
We also remember a game we attended an Ohio State when they crushed us 31 to 0, but we were amazed by how gracious their fans were to us. Not one person tried to rub it in. Would we have done the same?
Our worst memories of visiting were at an in-state stadium where we were treated horribly by their fans. Needless to say, we will not be spending money to go to their stadium again.
We recently read Sally Mason's column regarding Penn State visiting Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 20. Please, Iowa fans, let's treat their fans with respect, greet the team warmly as they enter the field and then beat the Nittany Lions.
