Have competency tests, but not age-based

In a recent television ad, Nikki Haley suggests having a competency test for all candidates over the age of 75 years. I agree. However, why not give a competency test to all political candidates? It probably would have saved the country a lot of anguish the last few years. The competency test would have probably prevented the presidency of Donald Trump and congressional terms of George Santos, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene and possibly several others.
