Even though I live in the Cedar Rapids area, it is hard to ignore all the excitement surrounding the casino decision in Woodbury County. Recently, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission made a trip to Sioux City to tour the four proposed sites for a land-based casino. All of the options seem like they would be a great addition to the state, but one stands above of the rest: the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
This plan will help enrich the downtown district of Sioux City. The brand is one of the most recognizable in the world, which will bring publicity and tourism to the community. This will spear economic activity, generating (an estimated) $20 million in annual revenue to the state. It also will support the entertainment district within the area by adding more opportunities for Iowans to dine, attend a music concert or enjoy gaming.
These new additions will draw in 1 million visitors yearly to our state. I know I will make the trip across the state to enjoy the available entertainment and attractions.
