Gun violence doesn’t show respect

To the editor:
Lately in Cedar Rapids there has been an ongoing shooting spree and come to find out it is because of individuals who say they aren't being shown respect ('More gun violence in C.R.”, July 15). What is wrong with this world when individuals go around shooting at each other and using the justification of 'respect” or lack thereof?
Do they realize how silly they sound? Gun violence doesn't show respect - it shows one's ignorance. Do they feel more like a man because they try to settle disagreements with a gun rather than words? Or are they not smart enough to express themselves without using violence?
Please stop - you aren't accomplishing a thing. The only thing you are doing is painting a picture of yourself and it isn't pretty.
We need a different approach to the problem - the innocent bystanders and police aren't getting through to the individuals actually causing the problem. Citizens can have all the peace marches they want, but unless the individuals involved in the shootings get involved nothing will be accomplished.
We need people to step forward, otherwise this situation will continue and possibly get worse.
