Gun amendment could impede common sense safety laws

Why should you vote ”no” on the proposed constitutional amendment that is on the back of your Nov. 8 ballot? I have guns — lots of guns and lots of ammo. I hunt and I eat what I hunt! I believe in the Second Amendment: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
As a responsible gun owner and hunter, I also support responsible and reasonable gun regulations. Going to any gun show and buying any gun without any checks is wrong. We don’t want 16 year-olds drinking beer; I’m not sure they should be able to buy an AR-15.
I know how important it is to act decisively to protect suicidal patients from self-harm. I’m not sure about a lot of regulations, but I am sure that adding this proposal to the Iowa Constitution is not helpful and could impede future legislatures from enacting common sense gun safety laws that protect Iowans. Vote “no!”
