If a factory farm wants to build in your community, pollute your air and water and lower the value of your property, contact Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement at (515) 282-0484 or iowacci@iowacci.org.
That's what my husband and I did back in 2002 when a corporation wanted to confine 7,000 hogs next to our fourth-generation family farm outside of Dexter, in Adair County. We organized our neighbors and stopped that factory farm from being built.
Iowa CCI members are everyday people from all walks of life, just like you and me. We've been standing up for clean air and water and a decent quality of life for 36 years. Our members have stopped more than six dozen factory farms. Local factory farm fights are part of our three-pronged strategy to win a more just and democratic Iowa that puts communities before corporations and people before profits, politics and polluters.
