Greene voters rejected politics as usual
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 17, 2010 12:40 am
Alvin Greene, an involuntarily but honorably discharged black veteran, beat a respectable white opponent (Vic Rawl) in the South Carolina Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Maybe, it's because of the stuff he didn't do. For example, Greene couldn't think of running any of the usual obnoxious radio and television ads because he didn't have the money.
The following two sentences are from an article on politico.com:
“Asked what ... could explain Greene's unlikely rise, (Rawl's campaign manager Walter) Ludwig appeared at a loss. He said (Greene's opponent's) campaign sent 300,000 e-mails, conducted a quarter-million robocalls and logged nearly 17,000 miles to Democratic events around the state.”
Perhaps a significant segment of the American public finally has gotten fed up with political spam e-mails and junk phone calls by robots, presumptuously telling people how to vote. That might cause them to vote against politicians who authorize such tactics.
