Great mom could be a great senator

I know Liz Mathis and I'm sure she would make a great state senator. I don't know Liz from her days as a University of Iowa student intern at KGAN or from her days as a reporter and then the first female co-anchor at KWWL-TV. I was not even born at the time.
I don't know Liz from her days as a professor of journalism and constitutional law at Wartburg. I sometimes saw her on KCRG-TV9, but I didn't get to know Liz from her work as a news anchor or her work as president of the professional advisory board at Iowa's school of journalism.
I know Liz as Mary Mathis' mom. Mary and I became friends during show choir at Regis Middle School and despite Mrs. Mathis' demanding schedule she never missed a school event. You can learn a lot about a person by the type of parent they are and both Mr. and Mrs. Mathis are wonderful parents. If Liz is 10 percent as good at being a state senator as she is being a mom, she'll be the best senator Des Moines has ever seen!
