Grassley working for interests, not people
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Washington crowd of lawmakers, aides and other officials named Sen. Chuck Grassley as one of the hardest-working members of Congress this month.
On his television commercials, Grassley has adopted the tagline “Grassley works.” Who is he working for?
When I look at my expectations, the senior senator is clearly not working for me. His vote against the health care bill did not represent my interests. He also landed on the wrong side of veterans' benefits, our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and farm subsidies.
His list of campaign contributors, on opensecrets.org, suggests that he is working for companies like Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Amgen Inc., Leon Medical Centers and Select Medical Corp, organizations tied to the health care industry. Add into the mix large contributions from Wells Fargo and professional lobbying companies like DCI Group and the picture seems clearer. He is working for powerful interests.
We need a senator who will work for people like me and that is why I am supporting Roxanne Conlin for U.S. senator. I hope you will, too.
