Grassley is no attack dog

Yet another infantilizing column from Sen. Chuck Grassley, ('Inspector generals serve America, not president” June 21) trying to spin his response to inspectors general firings as unbiased oversight when in fact his approach is wholly partisan. As ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, Grassley worked with the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to investigate and then issue a report condemning Obama removing a single inspector general. Contrast that to Trump's firing five inspectors general since April: Grassley rolled over after issuing a toothless news release, introduced impotent legislation that won't effectively change anything, put a temporary hold on two Trump nominees and now publishes an insulting op-ed that only highlights how bad he is at his job. Disparaging us as the fair-weather fans of accountability, it's Grassley's record instead that demonstrates he's only an attack dog for oversight when his party is not in the lead.
