Grassley, Harkin: Lead, stop acting like sheep
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I am growing increasingly frustrated with our senior U.S. senators from Iowa and their apparent lack of clout on Capitol Hill.
With their experience, one would have expected to hear more from them during the debt-reduction debate. Why, when both are nearing the end of their political careers, don't they step away from the safe party line and make the tough choices?
Most Americans realize there must be cuts to Medicare, Social Security and the defense budget. Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin duck these hard choices. We need leaders and not sheep. Please work together to do what is right for all Americans.
