A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll published on Oct. 15 found Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has a 3 percentage-point lead over Democratic challenger Admiral Mike Franken. Just over three weeks ahead of the election, the margins are narrowing and Iowans are wondering who they should vote for. The only scheduled debate in the Iowa Senate race was hosted by Iowa PBS on October 6. The hourlong debate was a good chance to hear about some of the issues, but hardly scratched the surface on many topics important to the future of our state.
Having a good sense of where the candidates stand on the future of agricultural and rural development is key to being prepared to vote in Iowa. For Iowans wanting to hear more from the two candidates, Iowa Farmers Union will be hosting two separate Senate candidate conversations on rural and agricultural issues. On Oct. 26 from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Grassley will join and on Oct. 27 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Franken will join. The events are open to the public and you can find more information and the links to register on Iowa Farmers Union’s Facebook and website.
