In Iowa, we are proud to be an energy exporter, thanks in large part to the dedication of farmers and landowners who contribute to our energy production via wind, solar, and ethanol. Iowa has long been a leading state that fosters energy development, and as Iowans, we reap the benefits via the energy costs are for our homes AND our vehicles.
Energy tax credits are a key tool we can use to keep encouraging these investments. Not only do these investments benefit Iowa's energy sector, but they also create thousands of well-paying jobs with good benefits. As a veteran, father of a daughter who is a career Navy officer, and as a retired Veterans' Affairs Officer, I understand the challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian employment. Currently, 10% of Iowa's renewable energy workforce consists of veterans. Among all Iowa industries, that is twice the overall employment rate of Iowa veterans!
Both Sens. Grassley and Ernst have long been champions of our veterans, and I encourage both to continue to support the industries that positively impact our veterans. This, of course, includes the clean energy industry which provides employment opportunities for those who served our nation.
