Governor’s veto endangers water quality

Kudos to Todd Dorman for his June 3 piece 'Branstad balks at conservation.”
Branstad used his veto to slash funding for a bill that would have gone to improve water quality and help conserve Iowa's soil.
Excess nitrogen and phosphorus have created a 6,500-square-mile 'dead zone” in the Gulf of Mexico. Algae plumes caused by these two fertilizers deprives the water of oxygen so much that aquatic life cannot survive.
This bill that he vetoed would supply adequate funding to help prevent this environmental disaster from worsening and also improve the water quality, not only in the Gulf of Mexico, but also in Iowa's streams and rivers.
I urge your readers not to vote for him as governor when he comes up for re-election in November.
