Governor should acknowledge driver was speeding
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Do Gov. Terry Branstad and his spokesman really think Iowans believe that the governor and lieutenant governor were so engrossed in their duties that they didn't know they were blowing by every other car on the highway?
C'mon man.
Any person with any reasonable amount of situational awareness can recognize the difference in going the speed limit, 65, and doing a “hard 90,” regardless of which seat they are sitting in.
C'mon man.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the governor was late for his next appearance. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the governor's driver also is keenly aware of the governor's schedule and that he was trying to make up time.
C'mon man.
It is also apparent that the governor will not take any personal responsibility in this matter.
C'mon man.
It is time for the governor to “man up” and say, “Yes, I knew we were speeding. We were late and were trying to make up time. I, and my staff, are not above the law and I sincerely apologize to the law enforcement individuals involved and to all Iowans for my lapse in judgment. I especially apologize to my driver for putting him in the difficult position to knowingly violate the traffic laws. I also will pay any appropriate fines and penalties that may be levied against my driver.”
C'mon man.
