The legislature has passed SF 383 to hold pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) accountable. As a small-town pharmacist, this legislation means everything to me and my colleagues who want to continue serving our patients.
PBM’s predatory practices shuttered over 30 pharmacies last year. SF 383 ensures transparency and fair pay, protecting Main Street pharmacies as critical health care access points.
Gov. Kim Reynolds has long championed rural Iowa. Signing SF 383 will preserve these vital services, ensuring rural patients access medications and trusted care. This bill provides a cost-neutral safeguard against PBM greed, freeing pharmacists to prioritize patients over financial struggles. States with PBM reforms across the country show lower costs, not increases.
I am also thankful to Rep. Ashley Hinson for highlighting SF 383 this week when taking on PBMs in Congress during a House Oversight Committee hearing. Our legislature rejected Big Insurance’s fear mongering, and now Reynolds can deliver for Iowans.
Gov. Reynolds, please sign SF 383 into law. Your action will secure Iowa’s health care future, reinforcing your legacy as a defender of rural vitality and patient care.
