Governor ought to obey traffic laws
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 25, 2013 11:10 am
Iowa's governor and lieutenant governor have a busy schedule but I don't understand why their schedule is more important than the lives of Iowans. Driving on Iowa's roads is a privilege that all drivers should respect and honor.
Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds have such a busy schedule they apparently force their state trooper drivers to disobey the law and speed to the next appointment. Branstad claims he's not going to micro manage troopers but he certainly seems to want to micro manage the aftereffects of this episode. He is willing to allow the state to release a 500-page document detailing the dismissal of the state agent who reported the incident.
Branstad goes on to say that “he would love to tell us more but his lawyers say he can't.” Now Branstad is calling for a reversal of law that requires state officials to keep personnel matters secret. “We need to obey the speeding laws and traffic laws, I don't want to see another incident like this one.”
Gov. Branstad, obey the laws of the land and you won't have to busy yourself in trying to change them.
