Governor, legislators should lead by example
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 30, 2012 9:59 am
The governor of Iowa is asking the union employees of this state to pay part of their health insurance premiums. It seems he and the Legislature are worried about the fiscal health of the state.
This is a good idea, but let us remember that our governor does not wear a crown and the legislators are not royalty.
They are state employees and should not be granted any extra privileges or benefits. They are paid by the same taxpayers and so is their health insurance.
It would be nice if they would lead by example and pay toward their medical insurance and limit their pensions.
