Government programs full of waste, greed
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 30, 2009 12:09 am
Regarding Jerry Barnstead's Sept. 22 letter to the editor, “Medicare shows good government can do”: There was an interesting counterpoint provided on the same page by Gazette columnist Todd Dorman.
He wrote that a government handout program (the Iowa Film Office) had gone off the tracks. The program apparently handed out grants like “Raisinettes” and ignored the tracking programs put in place, essentially abusing tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.
This is a stunning but not uncommon abuse and shows why Americans must not accept government-run health care. Government waste, greed and incompetence are the reasons Americans are against a public option - not party politics or Jimmy Carter's imagined racial bias against the president.
