Government on side of elites, not workers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 18, 2009 11:34 pm
All this talk about socialism is nonsense. Our government has been on the side of the elites for the last 30 years.
It's no accident that, starting with the Reagan presidency, unions have been broken, good jobs have been sent abroad and government operations are increasingly being privatized. The aim has been to concentrate the wealth of the nation.
As a result, the buying power of workers and the middle class has plummeted and inequality has reached the point where we can clearly see two classes now - the ruling and the working.
The working class is becoming increasingly subservient and fearful. Today, as Wall Street rolls in money and creates nothing, workers search for work at whatever wages are offered, if they can find it at all.
Corporate interests have covered all the bases and only government has any chance to help working Americans regain their freedom and rights. But our government has been hobbled by corruption and bribery from the corporate lobbyists.
The so-called conservatives, just like they did during the Great Depression, try to convince ordinary people that it is socialism to look for help from their own government. “Government is the enemy” is the big lie at the heart of their war against the American people.
Government belongs to the people, not to the corporations.
