GOP taking away too many funding sources
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Let me get this straight. A state senator's son gets caught on a Cedar Rapids traffic camera for speeding. Now some Republicans want to ban all cameras because this smacks of “Big Brother” watching. This coming from leaders who want to tell us who we can marry, whether we can terminate an unwanted or dangerous pregnancy, and want to oust judges who don't push their narrow-minded agenda.
The Republican governor has vowed to lower the tax rate on corporate business to 60 percent. This means cities will have their share of revenues diminished over the next five years. These are moneys they depend on to literally sustain their communities.
Cities will have to be creative to make up for the shortfall and now the lawmakers want to take another source of revenue away. Let the lawbreakers make up for the loss and don't raise my taxes. Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
