As we try to start celebrating Christmas we are in a cloud of distrust and division that can overcome us in a time when religious stories should be celebrated. The actions of some religious organizations and the GOP as we celebrate Christmas makes them hypocritical in their desire to tax (voucher) me. The Iowa Catholic Conference, Iowa Association of Christian Schools, Iowans for Tax Relief, The Family Leader Foundation, The Family Leader, Governor’s Office, several national organizations, and Odyssey who received the contract for dispersing funds all lobbied for this. For me these groups have little credibility. Jesus should kick their table over.
Was the intent of these organizations to back this realizing it would obviously cause division?
I have no problems with people taking advantage of the program, who wouldn’t in this economy? But Kim Reynolds, Steve Holt and Jason Schultz in the past said no more taxes, then endorsed these vouchers. Public schools suffer. There lies the rub.
Kim Reynolds says no more taxes but got the votes she needed. These people give us little hope for the future if this is their new mission statement, all education included.
