GOP going after budget now that a liberal is president
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I'm proud to be a liberal! I opposed President Bush's war in Afghanistan and Iraq. What an abuse of this country's human and financial capital. Ponder the outcome had the Sept. 11 perpetrators been treated as the criminals they were and not assigning their murderous behavior to a region, culture, country or religion.
For eight years, Republicans fanned the flames of fear, instituting tax cuts, waging war and propelling our country into financial jeopardy. I recall few, if any, Republican voices calling for a balanced budget.
Why is it now, when we have a Democrat president, inheriting the results of their reckless warfare and military spending, that they call for a balanced budget?
Elected with a mandate to address the health care crisis, Obama attempted to do so, but was sabotaged by Republicans. Since the election they seem even more determined to pursue an agenda of negativism, disinformation and anti-intellectualism.
