Glad there’s still a Bever Park Zoo

The Gazette's excellent article on Bever Park (September 8, “What’s the story behind Bever Park Zoo?” Page 1A) reminded me of my time as a kid.
I could see the cannon and swings from my bedroom window.
The creek and zoo were just below that cannonball hill playground area.
In the 40s I spent many hours enjoying the zoo, particularly the bears and deer, which the article didn't mention, and the monkeys.
I am glad that the zoo continues to be located amid the homes in our central city so that children can walk to it and in it, learning about and enjoying wild animals as well as sitting by and observing the creek life, swinging and picnicking.
