Get more schools bands in holiday parade
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 13, 2009 11:41 pm
The holiday parade in Cedar Rapids was great as always, but with one important thing lacking: school bands. We did have the Anamosa Middle School (no uniforms) and their drumming and horns were great.
This city supports Washington High School, Jefferson High School, Prairie High School and, to some degree, Xavier High School. There are many small towns adjacent to Cedar Rapids. They all have fine bands. I don't see why they can't be included in the few parades we have each year.
Grandparents, parents and children deserve to see them. I have many memories of the Emerald Knights marching in parades. Parades and bands are, after all, what keeps us coming back year after year.
