Get back to paying for the basics first

Is it wise for a family that struggles to survive to go to the movies every night, buy a new car, etc.? No.
While the city's streets and other basic needs remain unmet, the city spends several times the assessed value to acquire hotels, convention centers, amphitheaters and everything else they can buy with our tax money.
It seems only a few candidates look at the sustainability of Cedar Rapids. They know we can't keep wasting money and the city needs to get back to providing the basics. What good is an expensive downtown if the town rots around it?
After talking at length with them, the candidates that impress me most are: Justin Wasson, at-large; Taylor Nelson, District 2; and Jean Leaf, District 4.
They will meet needs before seeking wants.
