Geerdes wants to restore board trust

Gregg Geerdes, candidate for the Iowa City school board, has clearly, concisely and consistently presented his views to correct the ineffectual operations of, and the public's distrust of, our school board - paramount issues.

The school board's construction priorities must be refined because the currently available approximately $150 million funds is inadequate to support the $250 million deemed necessary to develop what the board now wants.

Geerdes' vision to construct a third comprehensive high school, as well as additions and/or renovations at Mann, Longfellow, Penn elementary schools and North Central and Southeast junior high schools and to construct, at most, two new east side elementary schools, will well accommodate current needs without requiring an additional $100 million taxpayer-funded bond issue.

He also proposes, because of construction/renovation requirements, an honest, consistent, transparent, logical, and well thought-out redistricting process involving all stakeholders.

Public confidence in our school board is at or near an all-time low and Geerdes seeks to work with all school board members and the district administrators to show the public that confidence and trust will be restored by a fiscally responsible, open and effectively managed solution to all district problems.
