Gazette’s COVID story left me feeling angry

It’s been a while since I’ve read something that left me with such conflicted feelings (“Home for Christmas,“ Dec. 25).
On one hand, I am glad that a child will not be growing up without its mother due to her having contracted COVID-19 and almost dying. On the other hand, I am angry at this woman who spent 51 days in a hospital bed, incurred tens of thousands of dollars in medical treatment, put the care of her baby son in someone else’s hands for weeks and further stressed professional and support staff who worked diligently to save her life, all because she didn’t get vaccinated (“just a personal choice,” she said) and still doesn’t know if she’ll bother ("I’ll leave it at that”).
She was glad for science when it came to saving her life, but apparently not willing to believe in the science behind the development of the coronavirus vaccine.
The selfishness displayed by one single individual is dispiriting; not only she but also her boyfriend had COVID-19 and they exposed a helpless individual to a deadly disease. I hope she will see that her son follows pediatric medical advice and receives all the vaccinations that are available in this modern era of science and knowledge to insure he lives a healthy life.
