Gazette should recognize religious significance of Christmas

I’m glad you folks at The Gazette promote Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and Ramadan and other celebrations that are important to various religions. But I miss the days when The Gazette wouldn’t hesitate to shout-out “the reason for the season” on the front page of the Christmas Day edition. The birth of Jesus Christ! You see, Christmas is the day the world celebrates this important event. The celebration goes way, way deeper than pretty lights and gift-giving.
There’s a reason why there are so many Christianity-based churches in Cedar Rapids and The Gazette’s circulation area. Some polls say 64 percent of Americans associate their beliefs with Christianity. It’s probably a higher percentage here in Iowa. Why not show appropriate respect just this one date every year, and mention the birth of Jesus? You could start this “new” tradition next year. Please?
