Gazette, don’t take Branstad at his word

I'm beginning to wonder about The Gazette's objectivity. First you run what amounts to a campaign ad for Mark Jacobs awhile back and now you assume Gov. Terry Branstad is being honest. Here's a man who won't take responsibility for his speeding around the state and you seemingly don't question him about the secret deals. If you believe these weren't done at his bequest, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
Why don't you do actual investigative reporting, instead of taking him at face value? I've stuck with The Gazette off and on for about 60 years. I always thought better of you. You also didn't raise any eyebrows about his cutting the pay of an official, because the official refused to quit. What exactly do you stand for?
